LOCATION
HOW DID WILD BOARS GET HERE?
Pigs were first introduced in the 1500s to what is now the southeastern U.S. by Spanish Explorer, Hernando DeSoto. In the centuries following European exploration and colonization of the eastern U.S., free-range livestock management practices and escapes from enclosures resulted in the establishment of wild pig populations and promoted their spread.
WILD BOAR AT SPARTAN HUNTING LODGE
There are 5 different lines of Pure Russian Boar in North America. Those lines are the Andres, Bzikot, Kalden, San Diego, and a strain from the Ural Mountains of Russia brought here in 1912. We are the only hunting lodge in North America to have all 5 lines. Color features are Dark Brown, or Black, sometimes laced with silver and gold around the mouth and other areas.
There are also 2 different types of Feral Boars in North America and we have both of those as well. There is a line from the original hogs released by Hernando Desoto in North America in 1539. Then there is a line of what we call “Hogzilla” type Boars. Between these two lines their color patterns can vary tremendously, giving any Trophy Room some fabulous variation.
Wild Boar are the second most hunted animal in the United States and also in the Entire World. No Trophy Room is complete without one. The key to a Trophy animal is genetics, nutrition, and age. Most hunting lodges take their Boars way too young, and many hunt hogs on an extermination policy. We hunt Trophies here at Spartan Hunting Lodge. As with our Rams and Fallow Deer, we try to take our animals at 4, 5, and 6 years of age. We treat our Boars, Rams, and Fallow the way many lodges treat their Whitetail Deer. If you hunt Wild Boar with us and take a Boar under 400 pounds it will be because you wanted to. Here at Spartan we consistently take the biggest Boars harvested in the country. Come and hunt Boar with us and complete that Trophy room of yours. If you already have a Wild Boar mount, then hunt with us and take a Boar here that will DWARF the one you have taken anywhere else in the World.

ACCOMODATIONS
Our lodge consists of 7200 square feet of living space. This consist of 3 large gathering areas. One for dining, and two for simply relaxing between adventures. Here we have DirecTV with every channel they offer, sports and otherwise. We do have WiFi, but do not brag about that fact too loudly as we are way out in the country and it is spotty. We also have a community type refrigerator in the dinning area for those who need it. Cokes, Sprites, and Dr. Peppers are always available in the dining area. If you require something other than that, feel free to bring it with you.
Out of these large gathering rooms are doors to our 13 bedrooms. Some of our bedrooms have 4 beds, some 6 beds, and our largest rooms have 8 beds per room. Many of the larger rooms have their own refrigerators. Six of our Bedrooms have 8 beds in each room, for larger groups. These rooms have their own refrigerator and bathroom in each room. The most important thing to know about the bedrooms is that each group will have their own private room. There will be no one inside your bedroom that is not a member of your party. So if you have a snorer in your room …… you brought him with you.
WHY CHOOSE SPARTAN HUNTING LODGE?
Wild Boar Hunting in the past decade has surpassed every other big game animal as a challenge to hunters in North America, except Whitetail Deer. If we are discussing the dangerous game, however, they are at the top. If you search for hogs with a reasonable amount of European blood then the East Tennessee region is your best bet for the real thing. There are a few other lodges across the country who have stocked a decent amount of European Blood, but no one has a longer and more solid history than East Tennessee.
Most hunting areas, however, offer Wild Boar as a side-line to Whitetail Deer. Usually, they are offering Feral Hogs.
To me personally, a great Feral Boar can equal a great European Boar in every way. Some of the baddest hogs I have ever tangled with have been Feral. The problem for hunters who are offered a hog as a side-line to Deer is that they are usually only offered because they are a nuisance to the area.
Therefore they are not selectively hunted and you are allowed to kill young boars. This cuts down on the number of animals allowed to reach a trophy age. At a place like this, you may see hundreds of hogs without seeing one trophy. We believe it is a waste to take a boar before he has reached his peak. Many hunting areas kill boars before three to five years of age. A true trophy hunter would never consider taking a Whitetail Deer at these ages, but it is the same thing.

TRAVEL INFORMATION
We are located 10 miles off of Interstate 40 about 45 minutes West of Knoxville Tennessee. We are on top of the Cumberland Plateau. Type 51 Old Gordon Road Grandview, TN 37337 into your GPS and it will bring you right to us. If you are coming to us from the West, you would want to get off of Exit 329 (the Crab Orchard exit) of I 40. If you are traveling to us from the East, you would want to get off of Exit 338 (the Westel exit) off of I 40. My personal advice is to travel Interstate as much as you can to get to Interstate 40. Don’t listen to your GPS about cutting across back roads. Drive Interstate if possible to I 40 and take either of the above mentioned exits, then let your GPS take you in from there. We are 10 miles off of either of those Interstate Exits from I 40.
